How Much Does a Boiler Service Cost in Ireland? (2026 Price Guide)
A routine boiler service and a breakdown call-out are different jobs. Start with the fuel type, check what the fee covers and agree any extra work before it begins.

Compare the service and its exclusions before comparing the headline fee. A provider's location and service area also matter: a price advertised in Dublin or Clare may not be available at your address.

What should a boiler service include?
Ask the engineer for the service checklist for your boiler make and model. A routine service is more than checking that the heating switches on. The exact work follows the appliance requirements and the engineer's findings.
For example, Bord Gáis Energy describes checks of the appliance and flue, ventilation, safety controls and combustion, with cleaning where required and service documentation. Ask your chosen provider what record you receive and whether any consumables are included. Do not assume every advertised package contains the same checks or labour allowance.
For an oil boiler, ask specifically whether the quoted amount includes the nozzle, filter-related work and combustion testing. A low starting price may exclude parts, travel or time spent diagnosing an existing fault.
A service, a repair and a new installation need separate quotes
Routine servicing is planned maintenance. Tell the provider if the boiler is currently working and when it was last serviced. Have the model number and previous service record ready if available.
A repair starts with a reported problem, such as a fault code or loss of heating. Ask about the call-out charge, diagnostic time, parts and return visits. A service fee does not automatically include fixing a breakdown. If you need boiler repair in Dublin, describe the fault when contacting a business instead of booking an ordinary service and hoping it covers the repair.
A new boiler installation is a different project again. Request an itemised quote for the appliance and associated work, removal of the old unit, controls, commissioning and documentation. This guide does not estimate installation costs.
Five details to confirm before booking
- Fuel and model: say whether the boiler uses natural gas, LPG or oil, and check the engineer works on that model.
- Final price: ask whether VAT, travel, parking, consumables and paperwork are included.
- Extra work: agree that repairs and additional labour need your approval before proceeding.
- Registration: check a gas engineer on the official register; a directory listing is not verification.
- Appointment terms: confirm access, cancellation charges and what happens if a part must be ordered.
The Registered Gas Installer scheme is the place to check gas-installer registration. Gas Networks Ireland's safety guidance recommends annual servicing by an RGI. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance requirements as well.

Is €125 a reasonable gas boiler service price?
It is one of the published examples above, but price alone does not establish value. Compare the labour allowance, service checklist, VAT position and extra charges against the other quote you receive.
Is a care plan the same as a service?
No. A plan may include limited breakdown cover as well as servicing. Compare the annual total, renewal terms, exclusions and cover limits with the cost of a standalone service.
Should I wait for a breakdown?
Plan routine maintenance around the manufacturer's requirements and annual gas-servicing guidance. If there is already a fault, tell the engineer before booking so the visit can be arranged as the correct type of job.
Can I service the boiler myself?
Arrange professional servicing. Gas work should be carried out by a Registered Gas Installer; use the official register linked above to check the person you intend to hire.
